Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery made history in 2003 as New York’s first whiskey distillery since Prohibition, nestled in a historic 1788 gristmill on 36 scenic acres at the foot of the Shawangunk Mountains in the Hudson Valley. The distillery produces the acclaimed Hudson Whiskey line, including Hudson Baby Bourbon—New York’s first bourbon—along with Manhattan Rye, Four Grain Bourbon, and other handcrafted spirits made from locally sourced grains harvested within ten miles of the property.
Visitors to this whiskey distillery in New York can experience guided Bourbon Renewal Tours that explore the grain-to-glass process through the rick houses and production areas, concluding with a deconstructed tasting experience where guests customize their own six-sample flight. The distillery also offers hands-on Whiskey Cocktails 101 workshops and a full cocktail bar serving seasonal New York-inspired drinks. Beyond the tasting room, guests can explore nature paths, relax on the deck overlooking the Shawangunk Kill, and discover a hidden waterfall on the property.
Named Best US Artisan Distillery in 2010 by the American Distilling Institute, Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery has earned numerous accolades including International Spirits Challenge Gold and San Francisco World Spirits Competition medals. The distillery’s innovative techniques—including using small barrels for accelerated aging—helped spark the American craft spirits movement and led founder Ralph Erenzo to successfully advocate for New York’s Farm Distillery Act, which now allows farms across the state to establish on-site distilleries.
