Cantara Distillery sits inside Camarillo Barrel Works, an 11,000-square-foot complex in a Camarillo industrial park that also houses Cantara Cellars winery and Flat Fish Brewing Co. The spirits operation produces brandy on-site, making this one of the few spots on the Central Coast where you can taste wine, beer, and craft spirits all under one roof. The vibe is casual and welcoming - think sprawling shaded patio seating, live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and a full cocktail bar alongside the beer and wine pours. The whole operation grew out of a home winemaking hobby that Mike and Chris Brown started in 2002 with a small haul of Chardonnay grapes from Lodi. By 2007 they had a public tasting room, by 2018 a brewery, and the distillery followed as a natural extension of the same hands-on, make-it-yourself ethos. You can come on a Wednesday afternoon and find a quiet corner, or show up Saturday evening for a scene with food trucks, music, and a crowd that treats the place like a neighborhood hangout.
