Greenbar Distillery opened in 2004 as LA's first distillery since Prohibition, and it hasn't stopped pushing boundaries since. Founded by husband-and-wife team Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Mathew, the distillery operates out of a working production facility in the Fashion District and holds the claim of producing the world's largest portfolio of certified organic spirits - vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, tequila, liqueurs, amaro, bitters, and a growing lineup of canned cocktails. Every bottle sold plants a tree; over a million trees have gone in the ground since the program launched in 2008. When you visit on a Saturday, you get a real look at an operating distillery - the copper stills, whiskey barrels, infusion vats, and canning line are all part of the tour. Tastings cover the full organic lineup, and the staff is known for being knowledgeable without being stiff. It's a genuine production facility that happens to be open to the public, not a showroom dressed up to look like one. If you care about where your spirits come from, this is one of the most interesting stops in LA.
