The Hudson House & Distillery
West Park, NY
You don't just visit The Hudson House & Distillery -- you arrive somewhere. Set on 27 riverfront acres in West Park, the property combines a working craft distillery with a full restaurant, speakeasy bar, event spaces, and a 4,000-square-foot deck that frames the Hudson River like a painting. The building itself earns a look before you ever taste a drop: the original 1850s Italian Renaissance Revival manor house and an adjoining 1930s brick monastery sat closed for over a century before co-founders Charles Ferri and Paul Seres purchased the property from the Vatican in 2015 and spent the better part of a decade bringing it back to life. The distillery opened in 2021 and draws its water from an onsite artesian well, used to make small-batch Black Creek Bourbon, Black Creek Empire Rye, Altair Vodka, and a spring gin with notes of juniper, jasmine, and citrus. Inside, original parquet floors, vintage chandeliers, and working fireplaces give the tasting room a setting that most distilleries can't fake or buy. Distillery tours run Thursday through Sunday, and the kitchen turns out a seasonal menu that goes well beyond bar snacks -- think king crab salad, wild mushroom risotto, and NY strip alongside a proper cocktail list built around house spirits.
