Jersey Spirits Distilling Co.
Fairfield, NJ
Jersey Spirits Distilling is a women-owned, grain-to-glass operation tucked inside an industrial building in Fairfield, NJ — and it punches well above its zip code. Founded in 2013 by John Granata, Sue Lord, and Betty MacDonald, the distillery has been running five days a week since 2015 without skipping a beat, mashing, fermenting, distilling, aging, and bottling everything under one roof. John's daughter Noel now serves as lead distiller, making it a two-generation family affair. The spirit lineup is the most expansive in New Jersey: bourbon, rye whiskey, single malt, vodka, gin, rum, and the Jersey Hooch line of flavored lower-proof spirits, all named after local places and experiences. Labels come from a Hoboken artist; the bartop in the cocktail lounge was salvaged from barn beams dating to the 1800s. The distillery has picked up more than three dozen competition medals from ADI, ACSA, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and the New York World Spirits Competition. If you're in the New York metro area and haven't made it out to Fairfield yet, this is the one that will make you wonder why you waited.
