Michigan Moonshine Distillery
Central Grandville, Grandville, MI
Step inside Michigan Moonshine Distillery and you get two things most craft spirits spots can't pull off together: genuinely good food and genuinely good whiskey. Founded in 2012 by two Michigan-born friends who turned a Saturday afternoon backyard dream into a working distillery, the operation is entirely grain-to-glass, sourcing ingredients from Michigan farms and bottling everything on-site in Grandville. Their lineup covers moonshine (apple pie, blueberry, cinnamon), barrel-aged whiskey, rum, and gin, with more than 20 cocktails available at the bar.
The tasting room doubles as a full BBQ restaurant, and the food earns its own following. Reviewers single out the pulled pork, the Cuban melt, and the banana bread pudding by name. Thursday nights bring live music; Monday nights are trivia. The detail people can't stop mentioning: $2 shots every time a train passes. The tracks run close enough that it happens regularly, and it turns a quiet Tuesday into something memorable.
The owners stay hands-on and visible, which shows in the consistently warm service. The space is wheelchair accessible, there's a kids' menu for families, and an outdoor patio opens up when the weather cooperates. Parking downtown is limited but manageable with a little patience. If you're anywhere near Grand Rapids, this is worth the detour.
