Standard Wormwood Distillery

Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NY

Amaro Gin Rum Rye Whiskey

Standard Wormwood Distillery sits inside Industry City's Sunset Park complex, and it's unlike any other distillery you'll visit. Founders Taras Hrabowsky and Sasha Selimotic started experimenting with wormwood after the herb was legalized in the US in 2007, and what began as home-distilling bartered for travel lodging eventually became Brooklyn's most singular spirits operation. Every cocktail at the bar is built entirely from house-made ingredients - the rye, the gin, the agave spirit, the rum, the amaro, the vermouth, the aperitivi, the bitters. All of it made by a team of four people using wormwood grown on the Hrabowsky family farm in Orange County, NY. The bar counter is French and American oak with iron and copper accents, and there's a lively open-air courtyard that feels like a quiet pocket carved out of Industry City's industrial maze. The cocktail menu rotates seasonally, with classics alongside limited-run tasting room exclusives drawn from a back room stocked with experimental herb and fruit infusions. Live music plays on Saturdays and Sundays. If you want to understand what wormwood actually tastes like - not as a gimmick but as a serious modifier that adds length and complexity to a spirit - this is the place to find out.
