Tierra Distilling Co. & Cafe
Clarendon Hills, IL
Tierra Distilling Co. & Cafe sits in a suburb you might not expect to find a working micro distillery, but that's part of the appeal. Clarendon Hills' answer to craft spirits production, Tierra opened in 2022 with a clear focus: rescue fruit, use unusual raw ingredients, and build something genuinely different from what the big guys are doing. Their copper pot still, affectionately named Rosie, handles everything from rye and single malt whiskeys to brandies and fruit-forward liqueurs. The result is a roster of spirits that leans into experiment rather than imitation. The cafe half of the operation is no afterthought either -- the place opens at 6am on weekdays, serving coffee alongside cocktails in a space that pulls double duty through the evening. Thursday and Friday nights run to 10pm, making it an easy stop for dinner drinks. Events are a regular fixture: comedy nights, fitness classes, food truck pop-ups, and the monthly Distiller's Tour & Tasting, a 75-minute walk-and-sip through the production facility. If you're driving in from the city, free parking makes the trip easier. The crowd leans welcoming and the vibe is unpretentious -- a neighborhood spot that happens to be making its own hooch.
